Autosize your PDF Form Fields

How can I make the text in form field automatically resize itself depending on how much text the user is typing in?

When you set up a Form Field in Flat Pack for Powerpoint, it will automatically grab the font size and apply it to the form field. The problem, of course, can be that when the user wants to enter more text than the form field allows, they won’t be able to.

Enter Autoresize (available from Flat Pack version 1.6 and above). You can now tag form field to be autoresizable in the Flat Pack tab. This means whenever a user enter text which is longer than the form field allows, the text will automatically shrink or increase.

Things to keep in mind

Autoresize won’t always work though. Whether you set this up in Adobe Acrobrat Pro or Flat Pack, there are some rules you need to be aware of:

  1. When you set a Form Field to be a Rich Text Field as well as Autoresize, the text will not be auto resized. This is because as soon as Adobe Reader sees that the user needs to be in charge of the text and not auto resize
  2. When you select Multiline together with Autoresize, the initial font size will be 8 in Adobe Reader

Have a look at the video below to see what that looks like.

How do I get the latest version of Flat Pack, to make use of this feature?

Just click the update button in the Flat Pack tab. Alternatively, you can re-download Flat Pack from your purchases here. If you don’t have Flat Pack and want to give it a try yourself, go here
